The Sanctuary

We’re excited to see The Sanctuary featured in the latest Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine! This beautifully written multi-page spread showcases the transformation of a dated 1950s house into a modern, light-filled home that we had the privilege of designing.

After struggling to find a suitable plot, Mark and Lorraine saw the potential in an unloved Sheffield property. They contacted Brightman Clarke Architects to ensure their vision was possible before exchanging contracts.

What started as an idea for a simple extension soon became a complete rethink of the home’s layout, unlocking new possibilities for space and flow. As Mark recalls in the article:

“Because of the wall of glazing, walking into the living area feels as though you’re walking into the garden.”

A Hands-On Approach

Mark and Lorraine were closely involved in the project, from making key design decisions to tackling parts of the build themselves—including hand-finishing the cladding and decorating the interiors: their dedication, careful planning and a great team of contractors made for a seamless transformation.

We’re incredibly proud that The Sanctuary was shortlisted for the Homebuilding & Renovating Best Value Award in partnership with The Times and The Sunday Times. The project proves that clever design doesn’t have to be excessive—every detail was carefully considered to create a home that feels both beautiful and functional.
