FIND THE PERFECT ARCHITECT FOR YOUR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Whether you’ve decided to extend your current home, convert another building or you’re planning an entirely new build, you’ll need architects you can trust to help you plan the project. A good architect will take all your ideas and create a practical, attractive design to meet all your requirements and preferences. Architects are also able to guide you through all and any contractual obligations, planning permission and regulations that you may encounter.
As you’ll be putting so much trust into your architect, it’s essential that you choose the right one for your project. At Brightman Clarke, we’re often asked how to find the best architect, and we always give the same advice – read our comprehensive guide to choosing the best architect for your needs below.
Find Your Architect
One of the most reliable ways you can find an architect who you know has done a good job and provided excellent customer service is to ask your friends and family for any recommendation. Word of mouth is always one of the best indicators of quality, and at Brightman Clarke, we often get calls from people who’ve been recommended us by friends and family.
If you can’t get any recommendations, check out the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) search engine to find architects who cover your area and are within your budget.
Now You Have A Shortlist
You should have a list of architects in your area that fit within your budget, and you’re now in the right position to call them all to see if they’re actually available to take on your project – remember that many of the best architects are booked months in advance!
Try to arrange to meet at least three of the firms who are available for your project, preferably the individual architect(s) who will be responsible for your project so you can give them as much information as possible and ask them how they typically stay in contact with you. This means you can agree how often you’d speak to them in person, on the phone and online, as well as getting an idea of how often they’ll be on-site.
The Final Decision
After you’ve met all the available architects and discussed your project, take some time to think about which architects’ skills, experience and style you liked the most. You should also take into account which company you felt most comfortable with, as you need to be able to trust them with probably the biggest risk and investment of your life.
